Turrolate is a typical sweet from the Cordoba subbetic, especially from the towns of Rute and Priego. Although the fame of its origin is attributed to this last town, its origin is in the fertile imagination of the artisan confectionery industry of Priego, possibly it began to be elaborated at the end of the seventeenth century. Its name is a combination of nougat and chocolate. It is made from cocoa and almonds or peanuts, sugar and cinnamon. It is shaped like a cylindrical bar and is manufactured in various sizes and qualities.

It is a product of great nutritional value. In the past it was a common gift to newly born mothers, so its consumption is also related to luck and good news. Although it can be taken alone, perhaps its ideal accompaniment is with a loaf of bread with oil from the land.
